The Living World
Forij
The cycles of plants, seasons, and the quiet rhythms that shape the natural world; and the ways they shape us in return.
— the living word
May you find wonder in the things that grow quietly around you, the places that have shaped you, and the moments that stay with you long after they have passed.
May you recognize yourself in the living world.
May you find meaning in the connections between us.
We have always turned to the living world in the moments that matter. We keep flowers, plant trees and return to familiar landscapes, finding meaning in the places that shape us. Perhaps we do this because some part of us understands that we were never separate from nature. Forij was created from a simple idea: that when we pay closer attention to the living world, we begin to understand more about ourselves, each other and the lives we are creating.
This is a place to remeber what connects us.

From the Land
Long before we became disconnected from the living world, people understood life through relationships. The land was not just where we lived, but something we belonged to. Seasons shaped our days. Plants offered medicine, nourishment, and beauty. Every living thing had something to offer those willing to pay attention.
Each piece begins with a plant, tree, flower, or place that has shaped the landscapes of our life. Lessons from nature quietly reflect on being human. Patience. Belonging. Courage. Grief. Joy. Change. Resilience. These pieces are an invitation to remember that we are part of the living world, not separate from it.
Every place holds a story, and every story begins with the land.

Hydrangea
Hydrangea
Heartfelt Gratitude
Hydrangea is gratitude gathered in layers, countless small moments becoming something fuller than any one of them alone. It holds the whole story, not only the easy parts. It is for the ones who can look back and see gifts woven through joy, difficulty, love and change. A flower for thankful hearts and those learning to cherish the life that shaped them.

Acer spp
Maple Leaf
Diversity & Tolerance
Maple Leaf is a celebration of difference, changing completely from season to season without ever becoming less itself. It reminds us there is room for more than one way of being. It is for the ones learning to hold difference with curiosity rather than fear. A leaf for belonging, acceptance and those making space for every version of a life.
Current Season
Fall
There’s a coolness settling into the morning air and the days are getting shorter. The garden is still full as the last of the blooms make their appearance. This is the season of harvest, everything the year has been building toward is ready to be taken in. The colours run deep, golds and oranges flood the space with warmth. Abundance is everywhere, nourishing our soul and feeding our spirit. It’s a time to stand back and appreciate what we’ve grown, everything cultivated with kindness and care.

Tagetes patula
Marigold
Belonging
Marigold is a golden thread between generations, carrying warmth from those who came before toward those still to come. It reminds us that none of us begins entirely alone. It is for the ones who carry family, friendship, ancestry and chosen connection close to the heart. A flower for belonging, lineage and the love that travels through us.

Papaver spp.
Poppy
Strength in Lightness
Poppy is weight given to the wind, delicate petals moving freely because they were never meant to carry everything. It reminds us that resilience can include putting something down. It is for the ones learning that release is not weakness and lightness does not have to be earned. A flower for unburdening, freedom and those ready to make room for ease again.

Salvia officinalis
Sage
Inner Wisdom
Sage is ancient knowing beneath the noise, quiet wisdom waiting for enough stillness to be heard. It clears away what obscures rather than adding something new. It is for the ones who have searched outward and are beginning to turn inward for the answer. A plant for discernment, remembering and those learning to trust what they already know.

Helianthus annuus
Sunflower
Kindred Light
Sunflower is a face turned toward the light, bright by nature but never alone in its brightness. When the sky darkens, it reminds us to turn toward one another. It is for the ones who keep looking for what is good without pretending life is always easy. A flower for optimists, loyal companions and those who help each other find the light again.

Lilium lancifolium
Tiger Lily
Inherent Worth
Tiger Lily is a voice without hesitation, distinctive and certain of its place. It does not ask permission to be striking. It is for the ones reclaiming the parts of themselves they once thought needed explaining. A flower for self-possession, inherent worth and those remembering that belonging was never something they had to earn.
